How we'll check a tradesperson
We haven't booked a village day yet. When the first village gets to four jobs in one trade, these are the checks we'll make before anyone is offered the day, and how you can check for yourself.
Before anyone is offered a day
- 1InsuranceWe'll ask for their public liability insurance certificate, check it's in date, and note when it runs out.
- 2An approved trader schemeThey'll need to be listed with Buy With Confidence, the scheme run by council Trading Standards teams, or registered with TrustMark, the government-endorsed scheme for work in and around the home. Both vet a business before listing it.
- 3Their trade's own register, where there is oneElectricians must be registered with a competent person scheme, so they can certify their own work. Oil boiler engineers must be registered with OFTEC. Plumbers and plasterers have no single register, so for them the insurance and the approved trader scheme matter most.
- 4We look each one up ourselvesWe'll check every registration on the register's own website, not from a copy they send us, and check again before each day.
On the day
- You'll get their name and photo with your confirmation, before the day.
- They'll show ID at the door.
- Nobody will knock without an appointment.
- Electrical work comes with its certificate.
If something goes wrong
The contract for the work is between you and the tradesperson. We chose them, though, so tell us at hello@soaringturtle.com. We'll write up what happened in the notes, as we will everything else.
Check for yourself
Once a day is booked, ask the tradesperson for their registration numbers and look them up. We'd rather you did.
